Cornerstone's Five Fields
Cornerstone is in a re-structuring process that involved putting everything we are about into five categories: Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Serving and Evangelsm. These five ministry areas represent our understanding of what the Bible teaches as five main purposes of a local church. Worship, fellowship and discipleship are emphasized in Acts 2:42 which says the early Christians "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Serving is one of the main priorities of every local church member (Eph. 2:10, 4:11-16). Evangelism and missions is the heart of Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 to "make disciples of all nations."
Aren't we well-organized already? Do we really need re-structuring? Restructuring enables us to help every member have a ministry. Restructuring enables us to pay attention to Christ's priorities for His Church. Restructuring enables us to pay attention to areas of ministry that tend to be neglected. We're committed to re-organizing this way not necessarily to replace anything that we have done in the past, but to add to and improve it. Having an organized structure makes sense because it enables us to more clearly visualize our ministries and responsibilities as a church and better enable people to see where they can fit into the process. We aim to improve participation, communication and effectiveness in serving the Lord at Cornerstone. We call these five categories "fields" because they need work to grow. They represent great opportunity. All five fields are a part of the same "farm," and are planted for a common purpose. God uses His people to reap the harvest—ordinary people like us.
Lately we've been seeing presentations at Cornerstone about these five fields. Prayerfully consider how you might be involved in one of them. The five areas of ministry have been placed under the direction of the leaders listed below, so contact any of these leaders for more information.
WORSHIP & MUSIC
Contact Stu Modrzejewski
As far as the worship we offer together at Cornerstone, this ministry facilitates the technical aspects and planning of congregational meetings, music, prayer and communion. Worship is much more than music or a church meeting, (Romans 12:1) members are encouraged to carry out worship as a lifestyle everyday.
FELLOWSHIP & COMMUNICATION
Contact Kent and Joy Shultz
Fellowship involves the interaction between our members as described in Hebrews 10:24-25, in the form of social gatherings, visits, and assimilating newcomers. Assimilation priorities include fellowship with God through Christ in salvation and fellowship with the local church family by an orientation visit with the elders and participation in a small group study. Communication both internal and external (web site, bulletins, directory, advertising) has been grouped with Fellowship, although it's ultimately connected to all five ministries.
DISCIPLESHIP & CHISTIAN EDUCATION
Contact Greg and Cheryl Arganbright
Vital to Christian growth, discipleship covers the various forms of learning to be followers of Christ, from children's Sunday School/Awanas and teen youth groups, through adult classes, mentoring, and small group Bible studies.
SERVING & MINISTRY
Contact Roliie and Debbie Clarkson
A ministry of ministries, this area carries everything from Care and Concern, Mens and Women's ministries, to serving the needs of our senior adults (Romans 12:10-13). Two major priorities are helping every member find their unique "shape" for service (spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, experience), and making sure that every member finds a ministry.
EVANGELISM & MISSIONS
Contact Randy and Shari Nesbit
This field answers Christ's call to preach the gospel to all the world. Ministries under this heading include outreach events, missionary support projects and Bible camps. The goal is to train every member to share the Gospel by way of their own conversion story. This group also works with the Worship team to plan evangelistic events.
